I have a very distinct, fond memory of nursery school. I actually have very few memories of nursery school that were fond because the school was housed in a dark, dreary old rickety Tudor that looked like a haunted house. But one May 1st we went outside by the brook there was a May Pole with beautiful ribbons, and we paraded around the May Pole. It was a joyous, vibrant, tactile memory. I have always wanted to recreate this for my children, so I did! Here’s a wonderful, simple way to make your own May Day Pole. It is a beautiful tradition with a rich history, make sure to share the rich May Pole history and tradition that Jane Pauley nicely overviews dating back to as early as the 13th century.
